Several tea lights burn in chalice-shaped holders crafted from white, translucent material that resembles crumpled paper or fine layers of fabric. The warm glow of the flames shines through, creating a gentle atmosphere.

Two white, flower-like structures lie on a table. They have a funnel-shaped centre and consist of many narrow, triangular elements arranged like petals.

A smiling elderly woman with her grey hair tied back and wearing a colourful scarf is concentrating on a craft project. Wearing a denim apron, she is carefully holding a puffy white piece of fabric over a glass; tools lie on the table.

A person is applying white paste with a brush to crumpled, transparent paper in a glass container. A second person is blurred in the background.

A stack of approximately 8 round, translucent, hand-painted covers crafted from thin, crinkled fabric. Each piece showcases colorful patterns: green tendrils and red berries at the top, with abstract shapes in pink, blue, black, and yellow below.

A round, empty container, wrapped in crumpled white tissue paper, stands on a dark wooden surface. A second container is partially visible on the left.

A person wearing a purple top is holding a transparent container and arranging several layers of white, slightly translucent, gathered fabric around the rim to form a large, fluffy flower. Scissors and a pen are lying on the craft table.

A person in a light-coloured knitted jumper cuts fine white strips of paper to create a fluffy decoration. Hands holding scissors and paper; this results in a fluffy, star-shaped object. Red containers out of focus in the foreground.

Three women in a craft workshop. A woman in a white jumper is cutting white fabric for decorations at the table. A smiling woman in denim dungarees and a colourful scarf is standing next to her. On the table are scissors, paper and a red container.

A woman wearing glasses and a blue shirt is working intently in a studio on a craft project, using a brush to arrange white, crumpled materials in a glass. Another person is standing on the left, working on a pot.

Close-up of a stack of crumpled, translucent paper discs. Each circular layer displays coloured patterns: red berries on green stems, yellow and pink splashes, black lines, pink waves and blue grids.

Zoom in: a round candle holder crafted from folded white paper, resembling a stylised flower or cloud. A small flame flickers at the centre, casting a soft yellow-orange glow inside the paper. Set on dark wooden boards.

To the interview

It smells wonderful in the old, cosy, warm workshop of the candle factory Hongler in Altstätten. Like wax, like Advent, like Christmas. Rita Rohner, head of the candle workshop, has prepared everything: Liquid wax floats in the tall metal tubes in assorted colours, and various moulds and small wicks for cast candles are piled up on the table. Next to them are huge frog-green T-shirts, which the course participants put on to prevent their clothes from dripping...
